Hanging by a Thread

I wrote this song about life in the city while living & working in the center of downtown Antwerp, Belgium. Born in Chicago, having worked as a cabby as well as staying for a while in an apartment at the foot of the Brooklyn bridge in Manhattan may have added to the mood of this tune.

Our apartment was a 5th floor walk-up on one of the busiest streets in Antwerp that had a two-way tram line right down the middle of the street.

At the time I was busking on the streets, in bars & coffee houses and by good fortune - in Antwerp’s red-light district.

By another stroke of luck, a well-known local promoter, Louis DeVries, had taken me on - so I was also singing my tunes all over Belgium, northern France, Luxemburg and Holland on something he called the Folk circuit. What a blast!

This recording is from late 2004? and is just me on vocals, playing my strat on the rhythm and lead overdubs. Also played cowbell & drums on my keyboard.
